shu uemura Rouge Unlimited Crystal ShineI’m already a big fan of shu uemura’s lipsticks.  It goes on soft, comes in great shades and is one of the most moisturizing lipsticks I’ve ever used.  The just launched a new line called the Rouge Unlimited Crystal Shine Collection.   The product says it has and “innovative fusion of multiple light-reflective pearls, together with shimmering ‘spectral booster’ oils.”  I’m a bit weary of shiny or sparkly sounding lipsticks, worried that I’ll end up with teeny-bopper lips or look like I’m headed to the club.  But this lipstick has a subtle shimmer that gives your lips a nice glow that gently catches the light – no blinding flecks of glitter.

The only bummer about this line, is that the lipsticks don’t have fun names, they have numbers.  Maybe that’s okay though, since Sonoma Sunset doesn’t exactly tell you what a color is any more than a number does.  I was surprised to find out that the color I’ve been loving is actually considered one of their orange shades.  Maybe I need to reconsider orange for my complexion.  Although this shade – OR 563 S – is more like a pinky-coral than an orange (it’s the shade in this picture).   There are 17 great shades to choose from – good luck deciding on just one.

I also got this great info on the many ways to wear this fun new lipstick:
shu uemura Principal Makeup Artist Jason Hoffman has given some tips on how to get the best look with the product.

-For a light glossy stain, apply directly from the tube.
-If you want a slightly heavier shine, use a brush to apply. The brush will pick up more product and blend it evenly on the lips.
-For more color depth and long lasting wear, pair the crystal shine with a pencil. Try to use a pencil that is similar in color and remember to fill in the lips, avoiding the outline left alone when the shine wears off.
-As with all of our lipsticks, crystal shine is great for eyes and cheeks. Use a synthetic foundation brush and apply on the apples. (The colors look very fresh and the shimmer offers a beautiful sheen)
-For the eyes, use a synthetic concealer brush. Beiges and browns will be the easiest to wear on the eyes as reds and oranges can often make you look tired.
Every woman should own the shade WH (white) 002S. It is so versatile! It can be used alone for a light glossy finish or layered over ANY lip color. It will lighten the color and give it a hint of pink shimmer.
The shade BG (beige) 901S is also a must have for anyone who likes wear a smoky eye. It is the perfect beige that compliments browns, purples, greens, blues and black.

Which shade is your favorite?
