Product Review: Tända Professional Skincare System, Tanda Clear
The Tända Professional Skincare System is a hand-held LED light therapy system for home use, which comes in two varieties: Tanda Clear, to treat acne and Tanda Regenerate, to treat signs of aging. The system is FDA approved and available by prescription only. I got a chance to try the Tanda Clear system for a few weeks to see what it could do for my acne.
I was a bit skeptical going into it that, light could help clear up my acne. I’d had a few blue light sessions done at a dermatologist’s office a few years ago and they seemed to have no effect on reducing my breakouts. The Tanda Clear system uses blue light to kill the bacteria that causes acne for people with mild or moderate acne. (The Regenerate system uses red light to help stimulate the skins natural healing process to produce collagen.) The light is safe to use (i.e., won’t cause cancer like UV light can) and shouldn’t irritate the skin like topical creams that are also used to kill acne-causing bacteria.
The handheld device is battery powered and has a triangular shaped flat head on it. You press the head to your face where you are having breakouts and leave it for 3 minutes. You repeat on all problem areas. It took about a half hour to do all of the sections on my face. (You can then switch out the head for the Regenerate system and treat aging areas). The system comes with those tiny glasses like you wear in a tanning bed to help protect your eyes.
While the head got warm, I didn’t really feel any other sensations while using the system. I used the device after washing my face, but before applying any product. My skin definitely felt different after the treatment – smoother and less bumpy. After using the system for three nights in a row, I definitely saw a reduction in my pimples and had fewer blackheads. The only side effect that I’ve seen is that my face has seemed a bit red, but it doesn’t feel irritated at all.
Since the system is only a loaner, I can’t attest to any long term results. The system can be used daily, for up to 15 days. I think if I’d been able to use the system longer my skin would have continued to improve. This was definitely one of the fastest acne treatments I’ve ever used, results wise. Taking the time to use the system every day was the hardest part, but considering if you had to drive to the dermatologist’s office and get a treatment done there, this is definitely a time saver. The cost savings over getting multiple treatments from your doctor is pretty significant too, at $295 for the system.
If you are interested in trying out the system, talk to your dermatologist about getting a prescription for it.
Have you tried the Tanda system? What did you think?
