Stila Illuminating FoundationStila has a ton of great products and as you’ve probably noticed, is one of my favorite brands.  I was excited to try their Illuminating Liquid Foundation since it says that it “hides flaws and imperfections so your left with a luminous, air brushed look.”  I’ve tried this foundation a few times and don’t think it’s the right daytime foundation for me.  I have skin that tends to be oily, so adding a foundation with a hint of sheen to it made me look like an oil slick by the end of the day.  Adding powder helped tone down the oily look, but really defeated the purpose of wearing an illuminating formula.

I did, however, love wearing it out for the evening.  Starting with a clean face and only wearing the makeup for about 5 hours, looked gorgeous.  If you have normal or dry skin, this foundation will probably work really well for you.  If you feel your complexion is looking a little dull, this could also work really well for you.  The illuminating part of the foundation can really help you look awake too and isn’t overly shimmery.  The formula itself is very lightweight but gave pretty good coverage.  I had to be careful though, not to wear too shimmery of an eyeshadow with it, as the overall effect was a but too sparkly.

Another way to wear this foundation that worked well for me and might be a better daytime option if you think it is a too illuminating for the office, is to use it like a highlighter.  I found that a little on the apples of my cheeks was an excellent and very subtle highlighter.

Have you tried this foundation?  How’d it work for you?

I have a new product obsession!  Avon’s ANEW Clinical Advanced Dermabrasion System rocks!  One of my favorite things about Avon products lately are their innovative and fun packing (check out my review of their Pro-To-Go Lipstick).  This system actually comes in one very cool bottle, using one nozzle to dispense a mixture of tiny dermabrasion crystals and a conditioning wash from two attached tubes.  The nozzle has 4 setting, allowing you to increase the intensity of the scrub over the course of a few weeks.

Avoiding the temptation to try to see super quick results, while knowing that starting on Level 4 would ANEW CLINICAL Advanced Dermabrasion System probably harm more than it hurt, I’ve been using level 1 everyother day for the last week.  Tonight I get to step it up to level 2!  The results have been so amazing on level 1, I’m curious to see what level 2 can do.  After washing my face, I’ve clicked open the nozzle to level 1 and dispensed a small amount.  I then rubbed in it circular motions over my wet face and neck for a minute and then rinse off.

Besides noticing the smoothness and softness of my face after this, I also noticed that the palms of my hands were a good deal softer too and have rubbed the product over the top of my hands during the last few applications too!  In this one week I’ve noticed a huge difference in my complexion - less black and whiteheads, a dramatic decrease in acne, lightening of old acne red spots and brighter looking skin.

I’m enthusiastically giving this product a two thumbs up recommendation!  Have you tried it?  What did you think?

These are considered pretty classic shampoos and conditioners by now, but I hadn’t ever tried them out.  I’ve really enjoyed John Frieda’s other shampoos and conditioners, so I thought it’d be fun to try out the Highlight Activating Daily Shampoo and Glistening Perfection Moisturizing Conditioner.  I’m a natural blonde, my mom is a redhead and my sister is currently enjoying being a brunette, so they three of us were able to try out all of the varieties.

Like John Frieda’s fizz-fighting products, these shampoos and conditioners are nice a rich.  They provide a good amount of moisture for a shampoo that is designed to remove buildup that can dull hair.  They also work equally well on natural or colored hair as they don’t strip hair or add any color.  While you might seek our a color depositing shampoo, my mom had to be reassured that these products wouldn’t add any red color to her light red hair, leaving her looking like a home-henna job gone bad.  It did quite the opposite and I think she liked the products the most out of the three of us.

While none of us noticed any dramatic change, we all liked how soft and shiny our hair was while using these products.  I noticed a subtle change in my natural highlights looking lighter, but I was the only one who noticed a difference.  Which is fine by me.  If I wanted a more noticeable difference, I’d get highlights.
