I get so excited every season that shu uemura comes out with a new makeup collection. They always have such fun colors that push the envelope just a little, but are still very, very wearable.
This fall’s Instinct Mode Makeup collection takes full advantage of darker colors that come out every fall. These though are pretty dramatic - the packaging even has a design reminiscent of David Bowie and the glam rock era. The Duo Eyeshadow palettes consist of a cream shadow and a powder shadow that are meant to be worn mixed together. The picture at left shows Mystifier - a black cream shadow with a brown bronze powder - not exactly office wear, but damn sexy for a night out. Mesmerizer (a purple cream and silvery bronze powder) and Tantalizer (a green cream and golden bronze powder) are a little more wearable for day time, especially if applied with a lighter hand.
The limited edition colors of Glow On blush are definitely day and night wearable. Lust is a great coral color, while pulse is a peachy pink. Both have a nice slight sheen that’ll give you a bit of glow as the weather cools. Steam - a third color, is really more of a highlighter blush with a warm silvery tone.
I’m already a big fan of the Rouge Unlimited Crystal Shine lipsticks as they are super moisturizing and very comfortable to wear. I thought the two limited edition shades, Crimson Dazzle and Brown Dazzle looked very dark and intense in their packaging, but both are super wearable - and that’s coming from someone with fair skin. I have a feeling that these pink based shades with subtle shimmer in them will be flattering on just about everyone. Even though the weather is still hot and my tan still holding on, both of these shades went on more sheer than I thought and looked very natural. The Crimson Dazzle is a nice bright red and the Brown Dazzle is more of a nice neutral shade than the drab shade its name might suggest.
All of these are available in September, so don’t miss out on some of the most fun makeup you could buy this fall.

Lisa Hoffman’s Day Cream SPF 15 is one of the products in her day and night care collections. The cream, which is really more of a light lotion in texture, is aimed at covering all of your daily face care needs: moisturizing, providing anti-aging treatments and sun protection. It’s one of those handy products that can par down your daily skin care regimen, saving you time and money.
Although the cream is a bit on the pricey side at $75 for a 1 ounce bottle. It’s pretty exclusive right now too, available only online and at Bergdorf Goodman in NY or Fred Segal in West Hollywood. But you’ll save money over buying a moisturizer, an anti-ager and sunscreen to apply daily. Plus, one of the pluses of this product comes in it’s packaging - the pump is airtight, helping keep the product fresher longer. The cream itself is also very light and only one squirt is needed to cover your entire face (maybe 2 if you add in your neck and decoltage - which is a good place to be using anti-agers and sunscreen btw).
The scent of this product is very faint and slightly powdery. The formula contains some natural ingredients in addition to anti-aging peptides Matrixyl 3000, Dermaxyl, and Haloxyl . The airtight packaging helps keep these ingredients from degrading, so they’ll be at their most powerful from the first use to the last.
I really enjoyed trying this moisturizer. It was comfortable to wear and even though my skin tends to be oily, I didn’t feel greasy at the end of the day. Since the cream is fairly light, I’d be curious to see what someone with dry skin thought of its moisturizing abilities. I also appreciated that the product was practically scent free, so I didn’t have to smell a product all day or have it interfere with my fragrance.
Have you tried this moisturizer on your dry skin? Or have you tried out another one of Lisa Hoffman’s products? Let us know what you thought of them.
