You may have heard of or experienced threading in the past. An aesthetician uses a tigtly wound thread to grab hairs and pull them out from the root. It’s similar to plucking with tweezers but is supposed to be gentler on the skin. The SunMaita Threader is the creation of aestheticians Anita Sun and Sara Maita who wanted to create a way to let people use threading at home.
The Threader uses two threads wrapped around eachother. You can use it with one hand: place the opening between the two twisted threads on the area that you want to remove hair from. Press the button the the Threader while lifting it off your skin. This causes the threads to twist around the unwanted hairs and pull them out. Ouch? The Threader comes in a kit designed to make threading easy and relatively painless. You start by applying the numbing Feel Less gel. Then you apply chalk on the area to help make the hairs more visible and soak up any oils on the skin that would make the hair hard to grasp. After threading, you apply a soothing lotion called The Closer.
After reading all of the materials included with the kit, I realized that the Threader is really meant to be used to remove unwanted facial hair. As a fair haired person, I don’t need to remove any dark facial hair. I really only pluck my eyebrows, but I wasn’t able to manoever the Threader into a position to pluck eyebrows hairs. So I tried using it on some stray longer, darker hairs that had sprouted around my belly button. I missed pulling them with the first few passes of the Threader. It definitely was pulling up the peach fuzz hairs. Even though I applied the Feel Less, it still stung and pinched – even when I pulled the hair tight like the directions suggested. I didn’t try using the Threader without the Feel Less, so maybe I was feeling less than I would have without it. I don’t think the Threader was intended to pull out longer hairs like I was trying. If you have darker facial hair that you bleach or wax, I think the Threader is intended for you.
The Threader was easy to thread. you insert one thread crosswise on the Threader. You then loop the other thread around it 5 times while inserting it perpendicular. It comes with tons of extra threads, but you can use a set many time before needing to rethread. Compared to the cost of waxing or buying bleaching kits, the Threader could last you years.

Having worked for a time at a day spa that did threading, I was really excited to see this product review. I’ve actually been taught how to do threading the “original” way but never really got the hang of it (takes some practice). However, I’m a big fan of threading myself because waxing is too harsh on my sensitive skin. Even though I’m blonde and fair-skinned, I don’t like having that little bit of “peachfuzz” around my lip, chin, and sideburn area. I’ve also been told that the little hairs reflect light and can make your face look fatter in pictures – egads! Who needs that?!?!
So, after reading this review I decided to give the SunMaita a whirl and I’ve got to say it’s the real deal! It was just like the day spa (except, of course I was doing it to myself and not having it done by a plump persian woman…). Though, like the “real deal,” I’m sure it takes some practice to get really efficient at it – it did take away all the little hairs. Unlike waxing, threading requires that you go over the same area many times – so it will take you some time to get the job done. Also, your thumbs might hurt a bit from the activator button.
Overall, though, a great product! Doesn’t leave the mess of waxing, doesn’t tear my skin like waxing, and does take away the peachfuzz stuff. Thanks for the introduction!
