I love going to get a pedicure – an hour of relaxation and pretty looking piggies at the end. But I really don’t get to go as much as I used to. I don’t have lunch breaks at my day job, my baby takes up most of my free time and really – they can be a bit pricey. I’ve gotten pretty good at giving myself a home pedi. I can do it after the baby has gone to bed and then have a few hours where I don’t need to wear shoes to really let the polish set.

I’ve amassed a good little kit of tools to give myself a quality pedicure, but I hadn’t really gotten a good foot scrub and lotion.  For me, the best part of a pedicure is really the foot scrub and calf massage. At home I’ve been using body scrub in the shower or a pumice stone in the sink for a quick exfoliation. But as summer progresses and I’m wearing sandals daily, I’ve noticed my callouses build up and get dry a lot faster. I’ve been needing to do a scrub a couple times a week to keep my feet looking smooth.

For the last few weeks I’ve been using Borghese Delicato Exfoliating Cleanser and Crea Divina Hydrating Leg and Foot Creme to help keep my feet looking nice. Both limoncello scented and made with olive, almond,  sunflower  and grapeseed oils. Even if my polish doesn’t need to be done, I can exfoliate and moisturize to make it look like I’ve recently had a pedicure. I park myself on the side of the bathtub and fill it with a few inches of warm water. I soak my feet for a few and the use the exfoliator on my feel, ankles and calves. This cleanser is a creamy scrub made with  finely ground olive pitts for exfoliation. They give a gentle but thurough scrub. And it smells delish! After rinsing it off, my skin feels clean and soft.

I pat my skin dry and massage in the Hydrating Leg and Foot Creme. The limoncello scent is refreshing and not too powerful. This moisturizer is of medium weight and absorbs quickly. It moisturizes well and left my skin feeling soft and slightly scented for a long time. Since I’ve been using it in the evenings, it helps keep my feet feeling moisturized until the morning.

When I do paint my nails, I’ve been loving Borghese’s great pink and coral shades. I have 5 to give away to one lucky winner (Tangelo Sorbet, Amalfi Melon, Belissima Rose, Dolce Vita Fuscia and D’Oro Peach). To enter, leave a comment with your favorite at-home pedicure tip. I will randomly select one winner after 11:59PM MST on June 28, 2009. Open to US residents only, please.  Good Luck!

Wow, there are some really fantastic tips here! I have learned some from here that I plan to try, thanks so much ladies! My pedicure tip is constant maintenance, you can’t just give yourself a little pedicure once in a while and expect beautiful little feeties, you have to keep doing a little bit at a time and eventually the effort will be almost effectless! I love to take ME! Bath Pomegranate Sugar Scrub and add a little bit of olive oil to it and just massage it all around my feet and toes, getting into the spaces inbetween my toes and also on the bottoms of my feet and around the ankles. The sugar scrub will naturally scruff off all your dead skin and the olive oil will not only make your feet soft, but also soften any calluses that you may have and eventually they will disappear. Caution: The olive oil makes the tub slippery so be careful!! This is such a terrific giveaway so thanks for the chance to enter.

My tip is to put vaseline on your feet the night before. It will soften your heels. The next day morning wash them and soak them in a Foot soak with bath salts and now your feet are ready for a pedicure.

  14. Elizabeth says:

Make sure to start with a clean, non-oily surface before you start painting. It will last a lot longer!

My biggest tip is to have your kids lotion them up for you. It is the tired moms way. I have also let my daughter paint my toenails. that was interesting

I like to use a Pumice Rock while bathing to exfoliate my feet.

  20. Susan says:

If your feet sweat during the summer, sprinkle just a little bit of baby powder in your shoes before putting them on. This keeps your feet dry, your shoes in good shape, and I think it also helps your polish stay on longer.
