Did I Finally Find A Solution To My Acne With SensiClear?

I’ve been waging a battle with my skin for a long time now. My acne is the worst it’s ever been (and I’m nearing the big 3-0 mark). I went to a dermatologist who told me that my problem is hormonal and that until I stop nursing my baby, there isn’t much I can do. So I’ve been testing out tons of skincare products – requesting samples from every PR rep I can find. I’ve been giving each brand a couple of weeks to work their magic and seeing moderately good results. But even with as meticulous as I am about my skin care (washing morning and night, using treatment lotions and serums, avoiding products and cosmetics that contain oils and keeping my hands off my face) I’ve still been getting really big, deep zits that leave red spots on my face for weeks after their gone (I pretty sure this is called cystic acne).
So when I got SensiClear, I had pretty much resigned myself to not finding a miracle product. This $20 kit reminded me of the acne clearing kits I would buy at the drug store in high school. I’d been trying high end products without much luck, so I didn’t really think this inexpensive option would do anything. Plus it doesn’t contain benzoyl peroxide, which had worked the best so far on clearing up my skin (although it usually made it super dry).
The kit has four products: Purifying Cleanser, Balancing toner, Blemish-Free Ance Treatment Lotion and an Acne Spot Treatment Cream. All have a slightly medicinal/menthol-y scent. The cleanser lathers well and rinsed of easily. It didn’t leave my skin feeling dry and surprisingly didn’t contain any salicylic acid, like most acne cleansers I’ve used. I hardly ever use toner. I don’t think it really does anything and can be super drying. For the sake of my test, however, I used the toner after cleansing. This toner is really unique, in that it is a gel instead of a liquid. I still used a cotton pad to apply it, and it cleaned off a little makeup residue. Either this means that it’s a more effective toner than I’ve used in the past, because I never see any residue come off, or that the cleanser didn’t thouroughly clean my skin. Either way, I really liked how the toner felt; cool and refreshing. It contains salicylic acid as it’s active ingredient and even though it contains alcohol, it only left my skin feeling slightly tighter.
I used the treatment lotion at night after cleanser and toning. It contains salicylic acid to fight acne and also gave me just the right amount of moisture. My skin felt great – not tight or dry or oily – and still felt great in the morning. I used the spot treatment on broken out areas after cleansing and toning. I’m pretty particular about suncare, so I wanted to wear a moisturizer with an SPF during the day. The spot treatment felt a lot like the treatment lotion, but has 4 times the amount of salicylic acid.
The box says that you’ll see results within 72 hours and I agree. After the first day my skin was already looking better. In the morning, I saw a significant reduction in clogged pores (whiteheads and blackheads) and my existing zits had gone down in size. Usually my skin looks better in the morning and gets worse by the end of the day. Not anymore! My zits that usually get bigger by the end of the day stayed the same size and I didn’t get my usual development of white heads. I’ve been using the system for 10 days so far and am seeing a ton of improvement in my skin. Yeah, I’ve gotten a few new zits during that time, but they are smaller and clearing up faster. Blackheads seem to be loosening up and moving towards the surface. I’m getting hardly any whiteheads (I used to have a ton!) so my skin is looking a lot smoother. And the big zits? Well, some that I had that hadn’t budged in over a month are starting to disappear. I’m also seeing the red spots that used to stick around long after a zit had gone, fading pretty quickly.
I usually use a clay mask once a week and an exfoliating scrub every 2-3 days, but I haven’t during the testing of this product. Usually these products help get my skin looking better, so I think that adding them in will help further speed up my skin clearing. The $20 kit says that it is for 30 days, but I think it’ll last a lot longer than that. A little product goes a long way, so even with the $5.95 for shipping added on you are getting a killer deal with this kit. They do do that tricky thing where they will send you another 30 day kit and charge your card for it automatically, so you have to be careful to unsubcribe from the renewal well before your 30 days is up. (They also offer a 60 day kit for $35, plus the $5.95 shipping, – an even better value).
I readily give this a big two thumbs up approval! Have you used this product? How’d it work for you?
