I know you’ve seen them at your local drugstore or chain store. The single use Face Masks with the picture of a woman wearing a face mask and fruit or flowers over her eyes. I’ve always found them intriguing and just a little bit creepy. They are super affordable and that made me think, could they really work that well? Aren’t natural products supposed to be pricey? The other day, I finally decided to see for myself. Montagne Jeunesse is the company behind these brightly colored packets containing single use face masks made with natural ingredients. They come in a variety of yummy scented options, targeting your specific skin needs, like:

Crystal Masque in Crystallised Honey & Passion Fruit: a warm exfoliating masque with dead sea salts and argan oil

Chocolate Masque for deep pore cleansing that also moisturizes with cocoa and shea butters

And the first one I tried: Sauna Masque self heating Red Hot Earth Anti Stress clay masque for deep pore cleansing. This mask sported a woman with a red face mask applied and giant leaves with red rocks sprouting from her eyes. I followed the directions and applied the mask after washing my face. The formula did start self heating upon contact and although I thought there was probably enough mask for two applications, I decided the self-heating-ness probably wouldn’t last in an open package. The mask itself was a little thinner and more pink than the picture on the package (no rock flowers spurted from my eyes). I took their advice and sat back with a magazine to relax for 10 minutes while I let the mask work its magic.

Unlike some other self-heating masks that I’ve tried, this one stayed warm for almost the entire 10 minutes. The botanical ingredients smelled very nice and did have a calming aromatherapy-like effect (kind of like berries and essential oils). The mask didn’t dry and I rinsed it off with warm water. It rinsed pretty well and didn’t leave streaky bits of mask that can take forever to rinse off. Aftwords my skin felt very clean and soft. Just to test out how clean it rinse, I wiped my face down with toner. I didn’t see any residue and the soft feeling was gone – bummer!

Next up, I tried the Fudge Sauna in Hot Vanilla: a self heating deep pore cleansing mask made with Mediterranean Clay. This one sports a woman with flowers made of caramels blooming from her eyes. The mask has a pale caramel color and smells dellactable! It’s even made with sugar and milk. It was all I could do to resist trying a taste! This mask behaved similarly to the first mask and left my skin feeling clean and soft. The only downside was that it really shouldn’t be used if you are trying to diet. I raided the pantry for sweets after I rinsed it off.

So I’m sold! I should have guessed once I saw that these are made by a UK company. UK drugstores are chock full of great single use products like face masks, hair treatments and temporary hair color that are high quality and super affordable. I also love the idea that you can buy a treatment for your skin’s needs at the time. Feeling dry? Go for a moisturizing mask. Need some exfoliating? There are options for that too. No need to plonk down a wad of cash for a mask that you may not use again in the future. And all natural products are never a bad thing.

Have you tried these masks? Which is your favorite?

yes, I love these masks too- my favorite right now is the passion peel-off masque that I can find at CVS. It’s got pomegranate and leaves your skin feeling really refreshed.
