The other day I was talking with a co-worker about hairstyles. We agreed that the grass is always greener when looking at someone else’s hair. She said she liked my hair because it wasn’t as frizzy as hers and I said I didn’t see the frizz but coveted her waves. Her hair naturally dries in the loose waves that I spend too much time trying to coax out of my every so slightly wavy hair. I’ve tried a lot of products to help – mostly curl creams and balms with moderate success. But since those products are aimed at helping women who already have curly hair, they can’t really help bring extra wave to my locks.

Herbal Essences just released a line of products that addresses the wavy hair need: Tousle Me Softly. The line has a shampoo, conditioner, hairspray, mousse, spray gel and finishing touch cream to address the needs of different hair types:

Fine hair: mousse
Medium to thick hair: spray gel
Frizzy hair: finishing touch cream

The shampoo and conditioner are one size fits all and both have a lovely smell like the other Herbal Essences products are known for. They work just like they should: the shampoo lathers well and rinses clean, the conditioner is light weight but leaves hair super soft. I tried both the mousse and spray gel on separate days. My hair strands are fine, but my hair volume is thick. The mousse did a good job of not weighing down my slight waves. I applied it to wet hair and let it air dry. The waves held nicely until I finger combed my dry hair to get some of the frizz out and lost some of the waviness. The spray gel worked a little better at holding the wave, but left my hair slightly stiff. I also tried adding the finishing touch cream – with the mousse it helped to calm the frizz and was so light weight it didn’t straighten the waves. With the spray gel it helped to soften things. I also tried adding hairspray on top. I’m not a big hairspray user, but found this hairspray to have a nice light hold that left my hair still looking and feeling soft. I didn’t think the hairspray helped keep the wave at all.

Technically, I should probably be using a diffuser to blow dry my hair, but I don’t have the time or patience for it. If I did, it might help coax out more wave and reduce the frizzies. But these products helped me get one step closer to my coveted waves. At $2.99/ea (except the cream which is $5.49), they are a steal too!

Do you have wavy hair? Any tips on how to style it?
