ZO Skin Health is a line of skincare products created by dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi. His line is aimed at making your skin healthier while it does various skincare product tasks like cleansing and moisturizing. His moisturizers contain SPF for sunprotection and his cleansers contain antioxidants and peptides to help fight aging. His Offects Exfoliating Cleanser is one of those rare products that combines anti-aging ingredients while fighting oily/acne-prone skin. These are tough to find in a beauty market usually aimed at either teen skin issues or dry/aging skin issues.
I fit right between those categories: oily/acne-prone skin as I approache the big 3-0 and have concerns about slowing down the signs of aging before they start. I was excited to try this cleanser as I’m also a big fan of multi-tasking products. Usually you only get anti-aging ingredients in serums or moisturizers – rarely in cleansers. The cleanser itself is clear with little blue Vitamin E beads in it. A little goes a long way as the cleanser seems to stick to your skin as you lather it around. When I first used it and used too much, I found it hard to rinse off my face. The next try with less product still took a while to rinse clean.
This cleanser smells a bit medicinal – probably from the tea tree oil it contains. I wasn’t really feeling an exfoliating scrub and afterwards, my skin felt soft, but not particularly clean. I thought maybe it was just because I’m used to stronger products that “strip” my skin clean of all moisture, so I tried the cleanser for a few days. After a few days, my skin didn’t adjust as I hoped. It still felt less than clean and felt oily soon after cleansing (with or without a moisturizer). The only plus to that was that my skin didn’t get worse with use (no new clogged pores).
This cleanser is for Normal to Oily skin, so I think it might work better on normal skin. If you have oily skin, you might want something a little stronger.
