Clean Home Fragrance: The Fragrance Collection by Glade

GladeSoy wax candles have been all the rage the last few years because of their slow burn rate, natural ingredients and reduced soot output. Despite the fact that the soy bean oil for these candles is relatively inexpensive, soy candles remain pricey and are often only found in boutique stores. Glade has introduced soy-based candles with their Fragrance Collection line. These candles clock in under $10 and come in a variety of boutique-y scents, making them a very affordable option.

As the weather turns cooler, I find myself using scented candles more often. It’s partly the warm, cozy feeling a candle can create and partly the fact that being able to open windows can leave the air in my house feeling stale or stuffy. With a toddler in the house, though, I’m more concerned than ever about the toxins and soot that a burning candle can put into the air. I’ve been picking up soy candles whenever I’m able to find them on sale since they tend to be pretty pricey. Luckily they also last a long time, so their per use cost is a little lower.

I was excited to see that Glade has jumped on the soy bandwagon, offering 3 sizes of candles with varying amounts of natural ingredients. They have 2oz for $3.19 with a 16 hour burn time, 4.9oz for $5.99 has a 26 hour burn time and large 10oz sizes for $8.99 with a lengthy. The 4.9oz is the most natural with 90% natural ingredients and the 10oz-er is made with 51% soy wax. (The website says the different %’s has to do with the amount of fragrance, stabilizers and other stuff in the candle.)

I’ve been using the 2oz candle at work. It is housed in a nice glass cup and the little size makes it perfect for my small office. I’ve been burning the Jasmine & Wild Orchid scent. It’s fresh and tropically floral – a great scent to keep me energized and calm. The two larger sizes are in a more squat container that comes with a lid. The 4.9oz makes for a good travel candle with the lid (perfect for making that hotel room seem less sterile). The 10 oz has a lid, but it’s a little too large for travel. It’s nicely designed with 3 wicks, helping it burn evenly across the large surface – no drowning wicks here!

I’ve been burning some decidedly more fall like scents at home with these larger candles: fresh pine & cedar and cranberry pomegranate. Actually, they’re more wintery than fall like, but I’m liking them with the cooler weather. The pine & cedar is a nice fresh, woodsy scent that doesn’t get too overwhelming. The cranberry pomegranate is a sweet holiday scent – the pomegranate adding a sweet note to the traditional cranberry scent.

If you aren’t into the christmas-y scents, they also have some citrusy and light floral scents available too. They can all be found next to the Glade airfresheners at the supermarket.
