BamfordBamford Body is another excellent line that originated in the UK and is now making appearances in select luxury retailers ‘Stateside (Barneys & Neiman Marcus). Using a minimum of 95% gold-standard organic ingredients, the oils and lotions of Bamford Body are intended to be just as good for the earth as they are for your skin. Even the packaging, with a refined minimalist design, is recyclable and made from 100% post-consumer waste. I tried all four of the offerings by Bamford Body’s Organic line: Rosemary Oil and Lotion, and Chamomile Oil and Lotion. The Rosemary is supposed to “help stimulate and strengthen the nervous system” while Chamomile is meant to have calming properties.

With an initial whiff, I preferred the Chamomile: it has a very light, herbal scent that would be easily worn by a man or woman. Beauty hint: if you wear a perfume along with scented oils or lotions, it’s best to go with an oil/lotion that has a singular base note rather than competing perfume with perfume. The oil is much thicker than my everyday bath oil (likely from the coconut) and it feels so nice going on. Because of the viscosity, I would recommend putting this oil on post-shower or post-bath before you towel off (while there’s still beads of water on your skin); putting it on dry skin would probably make you look kind of shiny and swimsuit-competitiony. A few hours after my shower, I could still smell a faint whiff of the Chamomile and my skin was nicely moisturized. The Rosemary oil has the same thickness as the Chamomile, but the grapefruit notes are very strong and it smells a little antiseptic for my taste.

I wasn’t quite as crazy about the lotions as I was the oils. They feel somewhat greasy going on and it takes a few minutes for the lotion to sink into your skin. They do have a great moisture factor and the scent, just like the oils, is simple and light. This would be an ideal lotion to keep near your kitchen sink – good moisture for chapped hands and the scents wouldn’t clash with the scent of your food. I am so happy to see the new generation of eco-friendly, carbon-light products on luxury shelves as well as in my neighborhood co-op. The Bamford Body products are an excellent illustration of the fact that being easy on the earth doesn’t mean that you have to skimp on the finer points.
