Nina RicciIf the Nutcracker’s Sugar Plum Fairy had a signature fragrance – it would be the Precious Edition of Nina by Nina Ricci. With a sweet, youthful, and heavy fragrance, Nina by Nina Ricci Precious Edition is a limited-release timed for the holidays. Looking like a collectible Christmas tree ornament, the bottle is housed in a sophisticated white box with a clear display window that lets you focus on the artistry of the bottle itself. The apple-shaped, soft pink mother of pearl body is topped with gorgeous silver leaves adorned with Crystallized Swarovski Elements. I could definitely see this being a hot seasonal gift item – it doesn’t even need to be wrapped!

To use vintner descriptions, the scent is incredibly fruit-forward: with notes of Calabrian lemon, Caipirinha lime, Toffee Apple and Praline, it’s a near-edible scent -which is going to certainly be a draw for some ladies! The fruit notes are enhanced by peony and moonflower and balanced with apple wood and musk. Nina Precious Edition goes on strong with the fruity/floral scent leading, and then deepens after time into a powdery musk (but the strength doesn’t fade – I can still smell it on my jacket a week later). Like most popular winter scents, this is a heavier one, so spray sparingly. It will go well with a soft spritz on the neck and your new cashmere cowl neck sweater or LBD and heels to a holiday party – or maybe even a showing of the Nutcracker.

Bottom line: Nina by Nina Ricci Precious Edition is a very feminine, fantastical, sweet/floral fragrance. I found it heavy for my tastes, but if sweet scents are your thing, head over to your Nordy’s, Neiman’s, or anywhere Nina Ricci perfumes are sold and try it out for a day. Perfumes smell differently depending upon your body chemistry, so it’s best to give it a test-drive before purchase.
