Get This Seasons Hot Manicure Look With Essie And Rock & Republic
This fall and winter, the hot look for your manicure is matte nail polish. Instead of buying all new polishes, there are a few “mattifiers” on the market. The best I’ve found is the one that Essie teamed up with Rock & Republic: Essie Clearly Matte. This designer inspired polish takes the shine right off your polish for a very matte finish.
The hot look we’ve been seeing on the runways is the matte look in greys and dark colors. Instead of running out to buy these shades that honestly, may not last more than a season or two, I’ve been using the clearly matte. To tests out what looked best before doing a whole manicure, I picked out some shades I thought would look good and painted one on to individual fingernails. I picked everything from light pinks to dark purples. After a few coats, I swiped the gloss right off those nails with the Clearly Matte as a top coat. It goes on wet, so at first it looks shiny, but quickly dries into a very matte looking finish.
I thought only the darker colors would look good, but the light colors actually looked pretty good too. Light pinks turned a bit dusty looking – like buffed clean nails. Some of the sheer and translucent shades didn’t look like much – the mattifying took the iridescence right out of them. Same was true from some of the shades that relied on the multi-hued iridescence that made them a great color to begin with. But these darker shades looked pretty fierce when they went matte. Very hipster. Very rock and roll.
