laszloblue_250h1Looking at various beauty products and creams, one can become blind to the relentless promises of “firming, toning, uplifting, protecting…” and all of the other ings; so when I got the press release for Laszlo Blue Firmarine from Erno Laszlo, I quickly read through the ings and moved on. Don’t get me wrong, I am a fan of Erno Laszlo and firmly believe that their concealer is one of the best on the market, but I’ve been disappointed by the claims of creams before and am now skeptical of grandiose advertising. However, I am happy to report that, for this reviewer, this cream actually lived up to some of its claims.

After a few days of regular morning application, my skin did feel noticeably firmer – not just on application, but also seven hours later after a full day. The makers of Laszlo Blue claim “Natural phyto-nutrient pigments (clorophyll and phycocyanin)… regenerate damaged cells and soothe inflammation,” and my skin appears slightly smoother and less red than it usually does. The crème absorbs very quickly into your skin (face, neck and décolletage) and has a light, soothing, and fresh marine scent. I also like that it is SPF 30; many daily face lotions now offer SPF 15, but I usually wear an extra sunblock on top of that so the extra protection factor offered by Laszlo Blue is great! Additionally, some lotions with an SPF feel greasy or leave a film on your skin – I definitely didn’t notice that problem with Laszlo Blue.

So, is it the much-ballyhooed prime ingredient Spirulina Maxima? My response to that is: “I don’t know – but does it matter? It seems to work!” Do I recommend a buy? Maybe. With a suggested retail price of $195 (available at Bergdorf’s, Saks, Neiman’s, Nordy’s, and other top-tier retailers), it’s a lot of coin to drop on a cream. However, it’s less expensive than other “firming” treatments on the market and it has the added bonus of offering the proactive anti-aging protection of SPF 30. I’ve tried other creams on this realm and will say this is the first one I’ve tried where I could actually feel results.
