O.K. I get the idea behind this name – it’s fierce and bright and the color gives you an eye-full. But the marketing gal in me just can’t get over the fact that it sounds too close to “awful”! Seriously Rimmel – your team didn’t notice that???
Be that as it may, Rimmel London’s Eyeful Eye Glistener, is definitely fierce, bright, and glisten-y. Eyeful is described as a “wet look tool for glossing lids in vibrant, yet transparent, rainbow colors… can be used as a shadow or a liner.” I tried Flaunt, a bronze/gold shimmer, and Talk To Me, a metallic light blue shimmer. Describing a color as “vibrant yet transparent” is kind of like describing paint as “wet but dry,” you just can’t be both. I would say that that these colors are more on the vibrant than transparent side. I get what they mean, it doesn’t go on like war paint, but there is definitely a bright and not-too-subtle color there.
My sensitive skin is especially so around the eye area, so I was worried to try these colors because wet looks and bright colors tend to be more irritating than powder neutrals. The first night I tried Flaunt and wore it as a shadow. The color went on surprisingly smoothly and, though I had gentle makeup remover on hand in case of irritation, didn’t bother my persnickety lids. I was also nervous that the wetness of the application would make my eyelids feel sticky; I was wrong. The color was a bright bronze/gold glow. I think this color would look fantastic on a dark complexion but it didn’t do much for my light-as-a-sheet one. I ended up putting on a darker loose powder over the shimmer and absolutely loved the results: the shimmer gave an incredible golden depth behind my dusky violet loose powder and also helped it to set and stay all night.
The second night, I went for a slightly edgier look with a dark, smoked-out eyelid and the silvery blue of Talk To Me just lining my bottom lid. It was definitely a “night-out only” look, but I had a lot of fun with it. And again I was pleased that, at the end of the night, the color stayed pretty well.
If you’re looking to play with some fun colors around the eye, I would definitely recommend Rimmel’s Eyeful Eye Glistener. At $7.20 apiece, you can afford to spring for fun colors that are “night-out only” looks and come up with some new, fierce eyes. Don’t forget to visit www.RimmelLondon.com and play around with their virtual makeover tool (you’re supposed to be able to load your own picture to try stuff on it, but I haven’t been able to successfully load mine).
