LysineOkay, so this isn’t your typical beauty product. But for any of you that suffer from cold sores, you know they can put a big dent in your beauty routine. Not only are they unsightly and difficult to conceal, but they hurt! Everyone who gets cold sores (or fever blisters) knows what makes theirs come on. Heat? Stress? You know your triggers. And you can feel that tingle on the edge of your lip just before they errupt.

You may already be using an over-the-counter treatment when you feel the tingle. You may even take l-lysine supplements to help clear them up. I found a solution that contains both. Lip Clear Lysine + is an all natural over-the-counter treatment cream that says it can reduce symptoms like tingling, burning, itching, tenderness, prickling, soreness and blistering while cutting the time you have that unsightly spot up to 50% or more.

When I got a sample, I wasn’t sure how to test it. I (luckily) am an infrequent sufferer of cold sores. So I put out the word to my co-workers to let me know if they got a cold sore and were willing to be my guinea pig. Well, I immediately had 3 takers. In a company of 18 people, that goes to show how stressful the holiday season can be! So I let my co-worker Heather take it out for a spin. She’d gotten the cold sore the day before and was just about to go to the pharmacy down the street to buy a cream.

I got her feedback a few days later. The cream itself is an off-putting green color and smells medicinal. But it did moisturize nicely and cleared up the cold sore in about 2 1/2 days. She said the directions asked her to apply it every 2 hours, but she was realistically only able to apply it about 3 times a day. Who knows how fast it might have cleared up if she was able to apply more frequently. All in all the test was a success!

Oh! I’ll have to have my husband try that. He got tired of all of the otc meds (Abbreva, etc.) not working terribly well and costing heaps more. He tried the Neosporin Lip Health and loves it. He said it doesn’t uncomfortably dry like other products. Anyway, there’s another goodie to try (oh, and it’s clear!).
