Help For Winter Hands And Feet: All About Hands, All About Feet

All About HandsWintertime is harsh; from a frosty nose down to chilly toes, keeping those extremities happy in cold temperatures is not an easy job. I was very excited to receive two samples from Upper Canada Soap’s new “All About Hands” and “All About Feet” lines just in time to pamper my chapped hands and chilly feet.

For the hands, Daily Moisture Hand Lotion is a lightweight everyday moisturizer with Avocado, Olive and Almond Oils. The scent is described as Avocado, but it’s really more of a floral/cucumber scent. The lotion absorbs quickly and leaves a light scent. I’ve kept mine by the kitchen sink and have been using it to follow every hand washing (which, in this time of vigorously avoiding bugs and colds, is A LOT). It’s good to keep an unscented or lightly scented moisturizer like this one in the kitchen so that the scent doesn’t compete with the scents of the food you’re cooking. My hands are still mildly chapped, so I’m thinking of stepping it up to their Revitalizing Hand Butter – a heavier cream specifically for dry hands. However, between diaper changes, dishes, and just general washing, I’m being rough on my hands and the Daily Moisture Hand Lotion is probably just fine for most folks. For a moisturizer free of SLS, parabens, synthetic dyes, mineral oils and phthalates, the $12 price tag is a bargain.

All About FeetFrom All About Feet, I tried the Warming Foot Scrub and Oooh la la it was nice! Wintertime shoe styles are generally more constrictive than summertime ones (hello pointy toed boots?) and a long day on fitted shoes can really leave those dogs a barkin’. I tried the Warming Foot Scrub on a particularly foot-hurty day and was in love with the warming and scrubby sensations. First, the Peppermint Oil and Menthol scents start to invigorate you before the product even comes out of the bottle. Then, the product starts warming as soon as it hits water, so you immediately feel the soothing warmth on your skin. Finally, the gentle exfoliation is perfect for less-calloused winter feet that might be too tender for a rough brush with the pumice stone. I used the scrub all over my lower leg and it felt so nice, in fact, I’d like to figure out how to get my husband to give me a lengthy leg massage with this stuff… The only gripe I have about this product is that, unlike some other peppermint products, the scent didn’t linger after my shower, but some of you may really appreciate that. $13 gets you about 6.8 ounces – a generous size sure to last you through many winter months.

SLS is a surfactant and moisturizers don’t incldue surfactants. Might as well tell us this stuff doesn’t include elephants.

Hi Jorge. Thanks for the suggestion, but the product hasn’t yet been tested for elephants… In all seriousness, though, don’t know where you’re getting your information but moisturizers sure do include surfactants: as something that stabilizes the mixture between oil and water (two ingredients in moisturizers), surfactants keep your moisturizers containing those ingredients from separating in the bottle.
