Smashbox DuoYou’ve been a good girl leading up to Christmas, right? Playing nice to the annoying relatives and spending more on gifts than you should have. Well, Christmas is over. It’s time to figure out what you’ll be wearing for New Years! I got some great eye make up samples that can help you achieve some naughty girl eyes (or tame, but fierce looking eyes if you don’t want to be naughty).

I love using shadow liner: you can get just the right shape and coverage you’re looking for. But it also takes longer than swiping on a pencil, so I usually save it for special occasions. Smashbox’s Waterproof Shadow Liner Duos are a fun option, because they offer two colors in each little mirrored compact. I tried Smolder: a shimmery dark silver and sparkly black and Slate: a shimmery dark blue and shimmery grayish navy.

Because the compacts are pretty tiny, I liked using a pointy liner brush to apply the color. You can really play with the type of brush to define your line. The formula is creamy, so it goes on smooth and is pretty smudge proof after you let it set. I like using to add a little flip on the outer corner because it doesn’t crease or smear and holds it’s shape all day. I’ve also used the lighter color as an all-over color, applied with my pinky finger and smudged on for a smoky eye effect.

They also offer some lighter options like a nude and bronze combo and a pale pink and deep purple combo that also work great as shadows or if you aren’t really down with the darker colors. The compacts are tiny enough that you can take them with you. Add one to your purse with a travel-sized liner brush and you can dress up your eyes as your leaving the office for a New Years party or drinks with friends. I found the tiny mirrors to be a bit hard to use, but I really like the inner cap that closes over the shadows, helping to prevent them from drying out.

Smashbox trioI also checked out the Eye Shadow Trio in Twilight. These shadow pots come in a range of color options, but Twighlight is definitely the most extreme. I found it pretty wearable, but it was definitely more night than day wear. The colors are a shimmery white, silver and a matte black. They suggest you use the white all over, silver as a contour and the black as a liner. The look is very cool, but I liked switching up the colors: silver all over, white as a contour and black liner or white all over with black liner topped with silver liner or even black liner with lightly applied black all over and white or silver as a highlight. The possibilities are as endless as your creativity. The shadows stay put pretty well and didn’t fade. Even so I preferred to apply the liner with a wet brush. I find it easier to get a smooth line and don’t have to worry about a dusting of black powder under my eyes after applying it.

I also had fun combining the Liner Duos with the Shadow Trio – you can get some pretty cool effects dusting powder over the cream shadow. Check it out for yourself!
