Challenge Day 19: ABBA Pure Moisture Shampoo, Conditioner and Leave-in Treatment

The Weleda Calendula Shampoo & Body Wash worked great for the first week or so. But then it started going downhill. My ends were getting dry from no conditioner and my roots were starting to get greasy again. Maybe switching products helped for a little while, but it was time to switch again. Since part of my 30 day challenge was to avoid “bad” ingredients, I couldn’t use any of the shampoos or conditioners that I had on hand. I packed up the wee-one and hit up ULTA. I spent some time looking at labels and almost bought some Burt’s Bees stuff (since I’m love with all things Burt), but ended up intrigued by a set of shampoo, conditioner and leave-in treatment by ABBA.

ABBA has a pretty natural philosophy and has been a leader in that area for salon products for a long time. A quick glance at the label, a sniff test, the sale price and the need to make a quick decision because my daughter was running down the aisle knocking bottles off the shelf and yelling “boom”, and the ABBA set came home with me. Had I not been under pressure to not be the mom that lets her toddler run willy-nilly around a store destroying things, I probably wouldn’t have bought it. A closer look later, revealed parabens among the ingredients list. But desperation (greasy roots) and no time to go back to the store (hubby out of town) I used it.

The set I chose is in the Moisture Therapy line. While the shampoo and conditioner unfortunately contain parabens, the leave-in treatment does not. And all three are sulfate, dye and DEA free, as well as being 100% vegan. They also contain a lot of botanical ingredients. The shampoo and conditioner feature geranium and mint. Both give the scalp a little tingle and are very refreshing (from the mint). The shampoo does have a little trouble lathering and the conditioner didn’t feel very moisturizing when it was on. But both rinsed cleanly and left my hair super soft.

The leave-in treatment is like a leave-in conditioner that you mist on damp hair before styling. I didn’t really notice a difference with or without the leave-in treatment, as the shampoo and conditioner sufficiently left my hair soft and tangle-free. Either way my hair smells delish! Minty and botanical when wet and somehow like roses when dry. The overall effect is a big improvement. My hair is still a little dirty on the second day, but it’s no longer dried out on the ends. I’ve got body and shine back too.

Hard to determine if this person is more ignorant than shallow – whatever that may be, she is certainly a dilletante. Avoiding “bad” ingredients – bad being defined as who knows what. Maybe she should try to do something of substance with her life.

    Jorge,

This is a beauty products review website. I’m not sure how world changing and “deep” you expect it to be. If you find it shallow, perhaps you should find a better use of your own time than reading it.

Working for Proctor & Gamble, I can’t imagine that you are doing much of substance with your life. Are you creating products that are going to make the world a better place? I doubt it if you are using your working hours reading beauty blogs and commenting on posts.

BeautyisEasy is a great creative compliment to my day job at a non-profit. This past year we helped 1000s of Ugandans rise out of poverty and create a sustainable income for themselves and their families.

So if I want to come home at the end of the day and fret about the effectiveness of my shampoo I will. No one is forcing you to read about it.
