A few days I reviewed the great eye makeup products that I tried out from Sante, a natural, mineral cosmetics company from Germany. The brand is already very popular in Europe, but has only recently come over stateside. Free of synthetic colors, fragrance, preservatives and oils, the products are also gluten free. From the lip products, I tried out the Soleil Lipstick Balm, Lipgloss and Lip Duo Contour & Gloss.
The Soleil Lipstick Balm is a hybrid product. It combines the tube styling, SPF 15 sun protection and lower price of a balm with the color of a lipstick. Available in clear and 4 tinted shades, I tried out Bronze, a redish bronze color with a bit of shimmer. The color is great for fall and was surprisingly wearable on my fair skin. The color went on like a sheer lipstick – more pigmented that other tinted balms I’ve tried, but without the thickness of a lipstick. While I like the color and sun protection, this was my least favorite Sante product. The formula doesn’t glide on very well and felt like I was dragging a dried out product across my lips. Once applied it felt soft enough and moisturized fairly well. The color and moisture lasted for only about two hours before I needed to reapply.
The Lipgloss was a lot more fun to wear. Although it isn’t quite like the goopy tube of lipgloss we usually think of. This one comes in a frosted square pot and comes in 6 shades. I checked out Shiny Rose, a shimmery light pink and Shiny Cassis and shimmery brownish red. The pots are on the tiny side, which is easy for toting them around, but were a bit tricky to retrieve product with my finger without getting it on my fingernail. The formula is pretty solid, but warmed up easily on my finger and spread easily on my lips. The product goes on very sheer, but with a good amount of color. The Shiny Rose was so pale a pink that it left my lips looking more like I’d applied a shimmery clear gloss, but the Shiny Cassis left a nice wash of color. Similar in color to the Bronze Soleil Lipstick Balm, Shiny Cassis is a great fall shade. The lipgloss has a little bit of moisture to it and isn’t at all sticky, goopy or thick. In fact, I completely forgot I was wearing it at all.
The Lip Duo Contour & Gloss is a dual ended pencil with liner on one end and lipstick on the other. It comes in only 3 shades and I checked out the darkest: Glamorous Look. This deep red looks similar in color to the Bronze and Shiny Cassis shades, but is definitely not sheer. The liner side of the pencil is very soft and goes slides of very easily – something that is very hard to come by in lipliners. The lipstick end is similarly smooth and a very richly pigmented color. The liner and lipstick shades match perfectly and have a hint of shimmer to them. This is the rich, think lipstick you might traditionally think of when you think of lipstick. But even though it goes on thick, the formula is super moisturizing and lasted a long time. This particular shade is great for fall, but definitely too dark for my fair skin. The liner was a must while wearing it, since a darker shade can easily look sloppy if not applied precisely.
I didn’t get to try the Lipstick from the line, but I bet the formula is similar to the lipstick in the Lip Duo. If it is as rich as that formula I’m sure I could find a shade or five to love from the 20 they offer. Keep an eye out for my final review of the Sante foundation and nail polishes.
