Developed for Julep Nail Parlors in Seattle, Julep nail products are a non-toxic line of “Mani-Care” and “Pedi-Care” products. I checked out their Essential Cuticle Oil, Nail Growth Revitalizing Serum and some wild summer nail colors.
The Essential Cuticle Oil comes in a convenient roller ball tube. Made with jojba, sweet almond, castor seed and rosewood oils, vitamin E and lavender and ylang ylan oils, the formula is light and super easy to apply. I used in on my pedicure every day to help keep it from drying out and on my cuticles at night to help keep them looking nice. The lavendar and ylang ylang scents are subtle and give a relaxing spa-like feel when you use them.
My strong nails that I grew during my pregnancy are starting to weaken now that I’m not consistently taking pre-natal vitamins. I was happy to try out the Nail Growth Revitalizing Serum to see if it could help fortify my nails that were getting weaker and breaking easily. The clear formula comes in what looks like a lip gloss tube and is applied with a long brush-tipped applicator. Since the product is applied around the outer edges and underside of the nail tip, you can use it on polished nails. It absorbs quickly, so applying it twice a day is no big deal. The key ingredients in the paraben free formula are protein-peptides that stimulate keratin genes to boost nail growth. It also contains lemon, apple and green tea extracts and has a light scent. After 2 weeks of using the formula, my nails are starting to look better and aren’t breaking as easily. I’ll be curious to see how well they do once the new growth reaches the tip, but didn’t want to wait that long before finally doing my review.
While the cuticle oil and nail growth serum come in pretty plain packaging, the nail colors are anything but. The regular line of colors is pretty wild (check them out on the website), but the summer line is pretty electric! The named polishes are still wearable as summer winds down and can help keep you feeling sunny as fall approaches. Niecy is a bright coral-y pink, Blake is a buttery bright yellow and Jaime is an electric demin blue. 2 coats gave the colors good depth. Julep founder Jane Park offered up this great tip to speed up your pedicure:
You can ‘set’ your polish by dunking your feet in ice water for 30-60 seconds. Then coat with cuticle oil to help protect your polish.
I found this to also be a good way to wake yourself up!
And the Empowering Women part? $1 from the purchase of the Nail Color goes to women’s empowerment organizations. Purchases of the Niecy polish are donated to Dress for Success, Girls Inc., and Define Your Pretty.
